WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Legal Aid of North Carolina passed its gavel to a new Board of Directors Chair recently, but that gavel didn’t travel far.
Womble Carlyle attorney Georgi Yonuschot is the new LANC Board Chair. She will serve a two-year term.
She succeeds Womble Carlyle colleague Charles Holton, who has been Chair since 2013. Holton will remain on the Board, where he has served since 2009, as Past Chair. Womble Carlyle’s Cal Adams also serves on the LANC Board of Directors and is a previous Board Chair.
Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove barriers to economic opportunity. LANC helps individuals, families and communities with legal problems affecting basic human needs, such as family, housing, education, employment and income.
“Charles was an outstanding Board Chair, and the Legal Aid of North Carolina staff is amazing,” Yonuschot said. “Despite the recent significant cut in funding, Legal Aid of North Carolina is not missing a beat and remains unwavering in the mission to ensure equal access to justice and of removing legal barriers to economic opportunity. This work simply is too important—and our staff too valuable—to be neglected.”
“Looking ahead, our commitment has never been stronger and we continue to assess the challenges of the climate and evolving needs of our community as my term begins,” she said.
Georgi Yonuschot prepares and develops expert medical and scientific witnesses in complex product liability litigation. She finds and develops experts nationally and internationally, and works with trial counsel on preparing witnesses and incorporating expert witness testimony into trial strategy. Yonuschot practices in Womble Carlyle’s Winston-Salem office.
