GREENVILLE, S.C.—Womble Carlyle attorney Melinda Davis Lux has been involved in some of the Upstate South Carolina’s largest corporate transactions. She recently joined the GSA Biz Vibe podcast to discuss the basic principles of mergers and acquisitions transactions and developments in the region’s M&A market.
“2015 was a great year for M&A activity,” Davis Lux said. “In the first half of 2016, it’s down a little bit, but that’s only because 2015 was such a strong year.” In fact, she said that 2015 was the first year since 2007 that transaction levels had reached pre-recession levels.
Davis Lux said M&A activity is particularly strong in the Middle Market (generally speaking, the Middle Market consists of companies with annual revenues of $50 million to $1 billion), and the Upstate has a wealth of those types of businesses.
She also said the impact of the recent Brexit vote on U.S. M&A remains to be seen. But she said, “When there’s general uncertainty in the markets, M&A activity can slow.”
