The firm began 2017 by signing an agreement with the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to locate a Consul Office within Womble Carlyle’s Raleigh office space.
Andrew Terrell will man the office in his capacity as UK Consul: Government and Prosperity, and will report to the UK Consul General in Atlanta. Terrell will be responsible for supporting the U.K.’s commercial, economic, and political relationship with North Carolina and will seek to develop business connections and scientific/research collaboration.
The Raleigh office will join U.K. Consul Offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, as well as the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. Womble Carlyle’s Raleigh office is located in the new Charter Square building downtown.
In 2016, Womble Carlyle formed a global alliance with leading U.K. firm Bond Dickinson.
Womble Carlyle Raleigh Office Managing Partner Johnny Loper said hosting the U.K. Consul Office is a natural extension of the firm’s growing connections to the U.K. market. In addition, Womble Carlyle is active in the British-American Business Council, with attorney Jeff Hay recently completing a term as President and Board Chair of the BABC’s North Carolina Chapter.
“We look forward to this relationship strengthening our ties with our colleagues and business associates in the U.K.,” Loper said.
