Womble Carlyle unveiled its new podcast studio this month with help from local college students. Mark Henriques, a partner in the firm’s Charlotte office and host of Bulldog Bites, the firm’s first podcast, thanked a group of students from The Art Institute of Charlotte for their work transforming a 12x11 storage room into a cozy podcast studio. Design lead Jasmyn Byrd, designers Amber Zaki and Alie Hodges, and photographer Mike Reed, spent the last three months laying out the design, rendering 3D models, selecting furniture, painting, and putting on the finishing touches. They outdid themselves, designing a room that looks three times as expensive as the modest budget they had to work with.

“We didn’t want to bring you anything less than perfect,” said Byrd.

The space looks warm and inviting, blending the podcast equipment in seamlessly with the glass tables and soft, modern furniture.

“Clients are often guests on Bulldog Bites, so it was important to me that the studio look and feel just as professional as the rest of the office,” Henriques said. “Thanks to the hard work of these talented design students I think our guests are going to be very impressed.”

Henriques asked the students what were some of the most valuable lessons they learned from the experience. He couldn’t help but note how familiar he was with their answers: understanding the client’s wants and needs, and the value of patience, communication and teamwork.
